Assumptions & About
How the estimates work, what they assume, and what WattWise Home does not do.
Simulation only. WattWise Home is a virtual energy simulator. It is not connected to any physical sensors, smart-home hardware or utility meter, and it never measures or controls real appliances.
Formulas
- Effective watts = 0 if OFF, otherwise the entered wattage
- Daily energy (kWh/day) = effective watts × runtime (h/day) ÷ 1,000
- Monthly energy (kWh/month) = effective watts × runtime × days per month ÷ 1,000
- Estimated monthly cost = monthly energy × tariff (৳/kWh)
- Estimated monthly CO₂ (kg CO₂/month) = monthly energy × emissions factor (kg CO₂/kWh)
- Energy saved = baseline monthly kWh − optimized monthly kWh; cost savings = baseline cost − optimized cost
- Reduction % = (baseline − optimized) ÷ baseline × 100 — shown as N/A when the baseline is zero
Model assumption
The model assumes the entered wattage applies for the entered runtime. For appliances with compressors or duty cycles (for example, a refrigerator), the entered runtime should be read as an effective full-power-equivalent runtime, and the result remains an approximation.
Limitations
- Real appliance consumption varies by model, age, operating conditions, duty cycles, temperature and behavior — the flat model does not capture these.
- Actual utility bills may include tiered rates, taxes, fixed charges, minimum charges and other adjustments that this simple flat-tariff estimate does not model.
- The default tariff of ৳10/kWh is an arithmetic example for illustration only — it is not a statement of your actual electricity tariff. Change it under the Dashboard's assumptions.
- The CO₂ factor is a user-configurable illustrative factor; no verified grid-emissions source is bundled with the app.
- Tips and goal progress are estimates, not guaranteed reductions or achievements.
- Days per month

WattWise Home — “Understand your usage. Discover your savings.” — helps you reason about household electricity through a simulated home: configure appliances, review estimated energy, cost and CO₂, then experiment in the What-if Energy Lab and share a Savings Result Card. All amounts are shown in Bangladesh taka (৳) with an editable tariff.
Edit the shared assumptions on the Dashboard — they apply everywhere, consistently.
